MONITORING DECADAL PRECIPITATION VARIABILITY IN UPPERINDUS BASIN, PAKISTAN

چکیده
Upper Indus Basin (UIB) is critical for Pakistan’s economy as it glacial incomposition and snow melt that provides 80% of the fresh water to River. Decadal fluctuationsin precipitation in UIB during 1980-2010, using interpolation technique Arc Map were exploredin present study. The results provided a positive correlation between winter andsummer runoff middle elevation basins UIB. map decadal difference mean annualrainfall (1980-2010), prepared Geographic Information System 9.0, revealed around Gilgit,Skardu, Astore, Chilas Bunji, was found least annual rainfall, i.e. -1.68 to-2.14mm, whereas area Kakul experienced maximum rainfall ranged from-13.63 -17.45mm. study suggested south lesser Himalayan areas variability period whereas, north inferred safer addition from its reserve.

Decadal Variability of Precipitation over Western North America
Decadal (.7yr period) variations of precipitation over western North America account for 20%–50% of the variance of annual precipitation. Spatially, the decadal variability is broken into several regional [O(1000 km)] components. These decadal variations are contributed by fluctuations in precipitation from seasons of the year that vary from region to region and that are not necessarily concent...
متن کاملFrontiers in Decadal Climate Variability
A number of studies indicate an apparent slowdown in the overall rise in global average surface temperature between roughly 1998 and 2014. Most models did not predict such a slowdown—a fact that stimulated a lot of new research on variability of Earth’s climate system. At a September 2015 workshop, leading scientists gathered to discuss current understanding of climate variability on decadal ti...
متن کاملArctic decadal and interdecadal variability
Atmospheric and oceanic variability in the Arctic shows the existence of several oscillatory modes. The decadal-scale mode associated with the Arctic Oscillation (AO) and a low-frequency oscillation (LFO) with an approximate time scale of 60-80 years, dominate. Both modes were positive in the 1990s, signifying a prolonged phase of anomalously low atmospheric sea level pressure and above normal ...
متن کاملDecadal variability in the Southern Hemisphere
[1] This study reveals that a quasi‐decadal variability exists in the climate system of southern high latitudes, particularly in the Southern Annular Mode (SAM) and subpolar to mid latitudes sea surface temperature (SST), based on in situ observations, reanalysis data, and the 20th Century runs of IPCC AR4 coupled climate models. Spectral analysis reveals that a statistically significant variab...
متن کاملDecadal Variability in ENSO Predictability and Prediction
A simple coupled model is used to examine decadal variations in El Niño–Southern Oscillation (ENSO) prediction skill and predictability. Without any external forcing, the coupled model produces regular ENSO-like variability with a 5-yr period. Superimposed on the 5-yr oscillation is a relatively weak decadal amplitude modulation with a 20-yr period. External uncoupled atmospheric ‘‘weather nois...
